There are two ways to record your tracks and mileage data in MESH Tracks. You can start and stop GPS recording manually, or let auto recording do its job.

Manual Recording

Manual recording is available when you start the app. Don't forget to set your vehicle, and choose if your trip is business or personal. If you forget to do this, you can change it during or after your end recording. Once you tap the Start recording button you can freely leave the app to do other work on your device. You will still see the icon in your status bar. This indicates the app is recording.

Auto Recording

Auto recording is a really powerful feature. When turned on, MESH Tracks is recording all your trips. There are three auto-recording modes:

  • On Move records only when your vehicle is exceeding a defined speed (default is 10 km/h). This is our recommended auto recording mode.
  • On Charger begins recording anytime the device is charging. This option is best for people who insert their device into a car phone holder, or charger every time they enter their vehicle.
  • On Bluetooth begins recording when the device is connected to specific Bluetooth devices. This option works best when driving Bluetooth-enabled vehicles where your mobile device is automatically set to connect to the vehicle.

Auto Recording Settings

After installation MESH Tracks is set-up with commonly used settings and ready for use. You don't need to change anything, and we recommend that you don't unless you are experienced with the app. If you prefer to customize your settings you can do so through the settings menu. The 'Auto Recording' setting is found by tapping the MESH Tracks menu bar on your device and selecting Settings, then Auto Record.

Auto Recording Action

Here you can choose the action on which auto recording starts. The default option is On car move. This option automatically determines if you are moving or not, and starts recording. If the phone is standing still it saves the battery by turning off unused mobile resources like GPS module. The other options are Manual, On charger, and On bluetooth as described above.

Max waiting time

We added a new feature to help you avoid getting pieces of a track, instead of the whole track, when you stop at a traffic light. It allows you to decide how long the app should wait until it ends a track. The default value is 2 minutes, but you can change this from 30 seconds to one hour.

Min moving speed

A common question we get is: “You are recording a phone that I take with me away from the car. How do you know when I am driving?”. The Min moving speed option allows you to decide if you want to track your “non driving” tracks. The default value here is 10 km/h (6.20 mph). The app only starts recording a new track when the speed exceeds this value. You can change it from 1 to 50 km/h (0.60 – 31.00 mph).

Battery life enhancement

We mentioned this feature earlier and we're really proud of it.  By using the available sensors on your device, that aren’t as battery consuming, we know if the vehicle is moving. Turning on or off the high battery consumers, like GPS, will save your battery.

Allowed Bluetooth devices

This setting allows users to define which Bluetooth devices MESH Tracks will start auto recording when connected to. If no devices are selected, MESH Tracks will record any device connected to bluetooth.

Calculate missing mileage

It's normal to lose GPS signals throughout the day, even when auto recording is on. Perhaps you've parked in underground parking, and the signal isn’t available until you get out of the building and start driving. The Calculate missing mileage feature, when turned on, automatically calculates the missing data from the point you lose GPS signal until it’s available again.
