There are two ways to record your tracks and mileage data in MESH Tracks. You can start and stop GPS recording manually or let auto recording do its job.

Manual Recording

Manual recording is available right after you start the app. Just don’t forget to set your vehicle and choose if your trip is business or personal – you can though change that during or after you end recording. If you tap Start recording button and you need to do any other work with your device you can freely leave the app. You’ll see icon in your status bar indicating that the app is recording.

Auto Recording

Auto recording is a really powerful feature. You turn it on and can know that MESH Tracks is recording all your trips. There are three auto-recording modes:

  • On Move records only when your vehicle is exceeding a defined speed (default is 10 km/h). This is our recommended auto recording mode.
  • On Charger begins recording anytime the device is charging. This option best fits people who put their device into car holder with charger every time they enter their vehicle.
  • On Bluetooth begins recording when the device is connected to specific Bluetooth devices. This option works best when driving Bluetooth-enabled vehicles where your mobile device is automatically set to connect to the vehicle.

Auto Recording Settings

After you install MESH Tracks app it is configured for common use. However, in the app settings you can change many settings (however, we don't recommend this unless you know what you're doing). You can find the 'Auto Recording' settings by tapping MESH Tracks menu bar on your device and select Settings the select Auto record

NOTICE: Before you read more, know that MESH Tracks is ready to use and set-up with commonly used settings right after you install it. So you don’t need to change anything. But the power of customization is great!

Auto Recording Action

Here you can choose the action on which auto recording starts. Default option is On car move – this option automatically determines if you are moving or not and starts recording. If the phone is standing still it saves the battery by turning off unused mobile resources like GPS module. The other options are Manual, On charger, and On bluetooth as described above.

Max waiting time

To avoid that you get pieces of a track instead of whole track whenever you stop on traffic light we added a feature where you can decide what is the time the app should wait until it ends a track. The default value is 2 minutes but you can use any from 30 seconds to one hour.

Min moving speed

A common question: “you are recording with a phone that I take with me away from the car. How do you then know when I am driving?” This option let you decide if you want to track also your “not driving car” tracks. The default value here is 10 km/h (6.20 mph) – the app starts recording a new track only when the speed exceeds this value. You can change it from 1 to 50 km/h (0.60 – 31.00 mph).

Battery life enhancement

This is the feature we mentioned earlier and we are proud of it. Using available sensors on your device that aren’t so battery consuming we know if the vehicle is moving and by turning on or off the high battery consumers, like GPS, saves on your battery.

Allowed Bluetooth devices

This setting allows users to define which Bluetooth devices that MESH Tracks will start auto recording when connected. If no specific devices are selected, MESH Tracks will record when Bluetooth is connected to any device.

Calculate missing mileage

During the day when Auto recording is turned on it’s normal to lose GPS signal. Maybe you parked in underground parking or the signal isn’t available right after you get out of the building and start driving. This feature, when turned on, automatically calculates these missing data from the point you lose GPS signal until it’s available.
